The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASDRA) has calmed and allayed fears that being nursed by Nigerians over the blood moon occurrence in the early hours of this morning.
Speaking through Dr. Benjamin Ayetunji, NASRDA’s Chief Scientific Officer, he gave explained the logic behind it and shot down claims of any spiritual significance being the epic happening.
The lunar eclipse began at 01:11 a.m. and ended at 06:22 a.m in Nigeria
Ayetunji explained that the lunar eclipse is an astronomical event that occurs when the earth comes in between the sun and the moon and the earth cast its shadow on the moon. He said that lunar eclipse occurs when the earth’s shadow blocks the sunlight, which otherwise reflects off the moon.
“There is no myth attached to lunar eclipse, it will even shock you to know that it happens every month when there is full moon depending on the location.”
He urged Nigerians to just “watch and appreciate science’’.
