It’s the trending news that JayZ seems to be sealing a deal with Nigerian Singer, Tiwa Savage. What could be the clause – cluster is the imminent departure this forthcoming deal will bring of her from Mavin Records.
Much can be said about the Mavin Boss, Don Jazzy and his veteran status as a very updated manager and one who rarely conflicts with his artistes upon contractual disagreements but rather one who seems green at man – management skills when his artistes have “blown”. In this scrutiny of the Supreme Mavin Dynasty boss, we have seen him groom raw talents like Wande Coal, an unfinished entertainer in Dbanj, a yet-to-be discovered diva in Tiwa Savage and also bred rookies in Reekado Banks and Korede Bello but it’s becoming all too familiar scenario for Don Jazzy that his finest talents leave him and his record label when at peak in the Nigerian Entertainment Industry and somewhat the emblem of the record label. It’s fast becoming a dejavu feeling for him while we can’t blame his artistes for moving on to greener pastures.
Don Jazzy and Dbanj: the combination of artiste and manager was like a marraige made in heaven and solemnized on earth. So perfectly knitted was their relationship on the music scene. It worked magic, it served the best even when we had other options. They both struck a deal with Kanye West‘s Record label and at an undisclosed fee. We expected bigger and mightier things to birth out of this deal until the then Mo’hits hit the rocks instead and many Nigerians still don’t know what exactly transpired between Don Jazzy and D’Banj till date but Don Jazzy seem more offended and save for D’banj’s latest single, Emergency…his musical career has nosedived on all fronts since then yet,has remained relevant in the industry.
Don Jazzy and Wande Coal: It was a new change to a static label as far as Don Jazzy was concerned before then. Record label changed name and signed on its first female artiste in Tiwa Savage. It truly needed a revamp after D’banj had left, he was the icen on the cake. But then Wande Coal was fast emerging as the shinning light after the tunnel and he became. He produced hits with the record label until 2013, news broke out that he had left. It shouldn’t have been, not after he had released the monster hit “the Kick”. He was the one we thought would not make us miss D’Banj but he had left before we started comparing the glory days of both artistes under the Record label. Not much was heard of him and in all truth, hasn’t been the Wande Coal we grew to love his debut album ” M2M”. The Mushin dude didn’t shine as much presumed.
Don Jazzy and Tiwa Savage : The signing breath fresh air into the industry as she maintained the First Lady status which was perceived to be a grievance of Wande Coal who felt he had fell in the pecking order. She had released Kele Kele Love and Love me Love Me singles prior to the but never was Tiwa Savage widely accepted as ours until she inked the deal with Don Jazzy. She was seen as a foreign artiste who was a misfit in the Nigerian context. After signing, she grew in all musical facets and humanly possible. From musical promotions, events and shows, media recognition, marital bliss to the motherly and bagging endorsement deals so much that she’s regarded as the most endorsed Nigerian artiste…awesome! All these had been on the bed of Mavins Record. Don Jazzy was more prolific in dealing with this artiste and proved he had evolved over time as he signed protégés who can compete with the likes of Skales, Lil Kesh, Runtown et al
