One Ekanem Ikot, 31, has allegedly killed his 27-year-old girlfriend, Edith Owei, from Owa-
Alero, Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State in a hotel room for allegedly infecting him with gonorrhea.
Punch Newspaper reports that the suspect fled the hotel after the incident on Monday, leaving
the victim’s lifeless body on the ground, even as sources said the suspect and the victim were in a relationship close to six months before the dastard act.
But an insider said the suspect, who hails from Akwa Ibom, allegedly lured the victim to Minna in Niger State after she had deceived her parents that she was going to Ambrose Alli
University, Ekpoma, Edo State, to collect her
NYSC call-up letter, having graduated from the
Department of Chemistry.
It was further gathered that after the family
members had waited for days to no avail and
without hearing from her, they were said to
have called her mobile telephone number
several times without any answer; a
development that overwhelmed them with
suspicion.
Surprisingly, the victim’s boyfriend, after some
days, sent a text message to the elder sister,
one Felicia, informing her of the death of the
sister in a hotel room in Minna as well as
allegedly claiming responsibility.
Felicia, who narrated the incident to Southern
City News, said, “We immediately reported the
matter to the police who then sent a radio
message to Minna to ascertain if such incident
took place there and it was confirmed to be
true.”
The victim’s sister added that the police and
one of her uncles travelled to Minna, where
they identified her corpse and brought it to
Asaba.
The victim’s body had since been deposited at
the Federal Medical Centre Hospital, Asaba,
even as unconfirmed sources said the suspect
allegedly killed the victim when he noticed
gonorrhea symptoms after he made love to her
before they moved into Minna.

CBN Reveals Actual Cause of Explosion At Their Calabar Branch
The Central Bank of Nigeria last night
revealed what really happened during the gas explosion at their Calabar, Cross River state branch.
Two persons, a staff and a construction
worker died from the critical injuries
sustained in the explosion.
Isaac Okoroafor, acting corporate affairs
director of the bank gave the update.
He said:
“The fire, which broke out at
about 12 noon in the banking
hall of the premises, was
apparently caused by a gas
explosion from the air
conditioners in the building
which was undergoing some
refurbishment at the moment.
As soon as the incident
occurred, the CBN emergency
alert system was activated, the
Fire Service was called in, and
the fire was immediately brought
under control.
Following the explosion and fire,
about twenty five (25) persons
sustained various levels of
injury, and are currently
receiving treatment at hospitals
in Calabar. Four of the injured
have been discharged.
We are, however, very saddened
to confirm that two of the
critically injured, a CBN staff
and a construction worker, have
died at the hospital. We are now
working with the bereaved
families to determine next
steps”, Okoroafor said.
The police had given a lower figure of 20
persons being injured, two of them in critical conditions.
The Commissioner of Police in Cross River, Mr Henry Fadairo said that the explosion, which caused panic in the state capital, was not a bomb blast as speculated.

New revelation suggests that former President
Goodluck Jonathan, spent a whooping N2.2
billion on prayers against Boko Haram.
The last administration was said to have spent
the money on special prayers in Nigeria and
Saudi Arabia to win the war against insurgency.
The N2.2 billion was disbursed through the
Office of the former National Security Adviser,
Retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki.
The disbursement took place after the
submission of a proposal by a former Executive
Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum
Corporation, Aminu Baba-Kusa.
In his statement of witness filed in the High
Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT),
Baba-Kusa said the N2.2 billion was spent on
prayers to hasten the defeat of Boko Haram.
The former NNPC Director revealed to EFCC
that the contract proposal was verbal and the
funds were released in two tranches of
N1,450,000,000 and N750,000,000.
“I approached the former NSA and discussed
Boko Haram problems and I suggested there is
need for prayers and he considered and
accepted in 2013 when he first came to office.
I personally sponsored many people locally
and some few to Saudi Arabia. Some monies
were later paid into our companies, which we
paid to some of the mallams.”
“I then arranged to recover my personal
expense which I put into our own businesses.
We have been spending a lot from our
businesses and personal accounts. Money paid
through UBA, First Bank and ECOBANK. For
Acacia Holdings Limited(A/C 1017330319-
UBA); ECOBANK(0122012650); and First Bank
(Reliance Referral Hospitals Limited A/C
2022394057). The total amount is
N2,200,000,000 from October 2014 to April
2015.”
“But I used some of the mallams to organise in
Abuja, Zaria, Kano, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Kaduna
and Saudi Arabia covering 2013 to 2015. I give
them funds as required from time to time,
ranging from N500,000 to N30million,
depending on their needs, traveling, sadaqat
and others for local expenses and travels to
Saudi Arabia for Umrah and Hajj.”
“I reminded the NSA many times before
payments were made. We grew up together
with the former NSA with common friends in
ABU. Most of the payments in cash were
meant to give out cash to people that have
been organising prayers. Some transfers to
Acacia to other banks were for logistics and
also to some mallams in cash.”
“The proposal made to the former NSA was not
documented by him or myself. The verbal
proposal to him was for prayers to overcome
Boko Haram within the shortest possible time.
The engagement for prayers by organising
some people to be praying was not formally
written down.”
“There was no amount of money agreed on. I
said to him, I will start organising, which he
agreed and said he will see what he would give
at a later time. From my own resources before
I started to ask for money from him”. Some of
these funds came from disposal of some of my
land in Abuja. One in Maitama, one in Gudu
and one in Guzape. The Maitama was a little
over N200million; Guzape (N80m), Gudu
(N18m), he told the EFCC.”
Baba-Kusa also promised to refund the N2.2
billion by disposing of his assets and landed
properties.
“I am making efforts to dispose of my
properties in Abuja which would be over the
total amount of N2.2billion. If the sales go
through and the amount from the sales is
made in full, I will make full payment.

during the convocation of The Osun State
University (UNIOSUN) on Wednesday,
renamed all its tertiary institutions in the
state.
He named Osun State University after
former Minister of Justice and Attorney
General of the Federation, the late Chief
Bola Ige.
Other institutions renamed were Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke now Bisi Akande College of Technology; Osun State Polytechnic Iree now Sunday Afolabi Polytechnic.

NUPENG,NNPC workers call off strike after midnight meeting
The long queues for fuel at petrol stations
might soon come to an end.
The National Union of Petroleum and Natural
Gas (NUPENG) and the Petroleum and Natural
Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria
(PENGASSAN) have called off the strike which
they embarked upon on Wednesday, March 9.
The decision to end the strike is as a result of
a late night meeting with the Minister of state
for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu on
Thursday, March 10.
The unions had gone on strike following the
announcements of the proposed restructuring
of the Nigerian National Petroleum
Corporation, NNPC by Kachikwu.
The restructuring, according to Kachikwu, who
is also the Group Managing Director of NNPC,
will split NNPC into 5 business-focused and 2
service driven units

a drink and while growing up. These
opinions shape your way of life and you
react to your significant other based on
them – You need to conquer them.
To conquer negative patterns is to first
identify them and get an expert or coach to
help you rid them. Then, make a list of your
pre-set patterns; the ones God put in you
before your parents and the environment
passed theirs down to you. Live by these
ones from now on and you will be amazed at
the result in your relationship and marriage.
Becoming an Asset
I’m already running out of space, I can’t dig
deep into this. One question for you though.
Is your partner better now that they are
with you than when they were on their own?
What significant contribution do you plan to
add to your partner’s life (physical and
spiritual) in the next 12 months? This will
give you an idea.
Becoming Extremely Teachable
Just a few questions for you here too:
When was the last time you learnt something
new especially in the area of relationship
and marriage? Do you always insist on
having it your own way? Do you believe you
are more intelligent than your spouse? How
often do you apologise? Does it take you
‘one year’ to accept your partner’s apology
when offended? When was the last time you
allowed your partner have it his/her way
just to make them feel great?
No matter how intelligent you think you are,
if you are always executing your ideas
without asking for your partner’s opinion,
you are not teachable.
Your problem is not communication, when
you become an asset and becomes extremely
teachable, you will learn and master
communication. Your problem is not
money, when you master your emotions and
self, you will know what you are great at and
will turn it into cash. Your problem is not
your mother-in-law, when you conquer
negative patterns and become an asset, your
attitude will change towards her and hers
will change towards you. Your problem is
not even sex, you only need to learn new
ways to sexually satisfy – that’s also being
teachable.
What you call the problem is not the
problem, the problem is that you have not

Obed Muhoozi, a first year student of Social Work and social administration cut himself at about 4pm Tuesday, while in his room at Top View Hostel. NNPC Embarks On Nationwide Strike
According to the report, Oil workers have
shut down the operations of the Nigerian
National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)
nationwide following Tuesday’s unbundling
of the corporation. Members of staff and
management of the corporation arrived
their various offices on Wednesday
morning to discover that they could not
gain entrance following the total strike.
The immediate impact of the strike will be
nationwide fuel scarcity as products will
not be lifted by NUPENG. It is not
expected to affect the crude oil export yet
except the Department of Petroleum
Resources (DPR) joins in solidarity. Ibe
Kachikwu, minister of state for petroleum
resources who doubles as the NNPC group
managing director, had announced the
creation of seven independent units on
Tuesday, namely downstream, gas and
power, refineries, ventures, corporate
planning and services, and finance and
accounts.

committee (GEC) of the the Nigeria Union
of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers
(NUPENG) and the National Union of
Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers
(NUPENG) convened an emergency meeting at 10pm on Tuesday to discuss the
development.
At the end of the meeting, GEC sent this
message to all members: “The GEC of
NUPENG & PENGASSAN at its meeting of
8th March 2016, which started at
10:00pm has extensively discussed the
pronouncement of the GMD on NNPC
UNBUNDLING. We observed that the GMD/
HMSP totally disregarded due process and failed to engage STAKEHOLDERS. Hence, from midnight today, ALL NNPC
LOCATIONS will be SHUT DOWN
COMPLETELY until further notice.
Further directives will be communicated
accordingly.” When TheCable visited the
NNPC headquarters on Wednesday,
hundreds of the corporation’s staff littered
the road causing gridlock on Herbert
Macaulay way. Unionists in red were at the
scene barricading the entrance to the
NNPC building. Also, security agents were
on hand to forestall break down of order.
A staff member of the NNPC, who spoke
on condition of anonymity, told this
newspaper that he was at the corporation’s
building as of 7:30am on Wednesday but
met “it barricaded by members of
PENGASSAN.”
TheCable tried to speak with one of the
leaders of the union, but he said: “We are
not here for journalists. This is not for the
press.” Kachikwu had said the distribution of subsidiary companies of the corporation would further be restructuredinto direct management of the divisions.
Last week, Kachikwu announced that the
government was planning to unbundle the
corporation into 30 profitable companies.

The apostle then told someone
to go boil water in a kettle at
the kitchen. One young man
went there and did so…
He came back with boiling
water.
The Son of God took the kettle
and put it on himself (on his
chest, he hugged it). The
congregation was in shock, as
they shouted: “NO!”
Some couldn’t even look.

He then asked; “who has faith
here?”
One by one, people came and did what the apostle did, and were not hurt.
He re-boiled the water… as he
did;
…one young woman came to him and said;
“Papa I have faith, pour it on my hand as hot as it is.”
The Son of God first poured on Himself, then poured unto this lady.
The rest of the congregation, one by one followed, as they also wanted to test their faith.

Worshipper sneaks out during vigil, commits suicide behind church building
The Church of the King of Kings on Taju Bello Street, in the Iju-Ishaga area of Lagos, has been thrown into confusion after a member, identified simply as Taofiq, committed suicide at the back of the church building.
Taofiq, a mechanic, was said to have attended a vigil in the church on Friday, but sneaked out while the prayer was going on. He subsequently went to a valley at the back of the church, where he hanged himself on a tree.
PUNCH Metro learnt that his body was met dangling while his prayer garment was found folded at the scene of the incident around 5am on Saturday.
The police from the Iju division were said to have gone to the area and took the corpse after the church’s assistant pastor reported the case.
Taofiq, who converted to Christianity
sometime last year, started attending the
church –a parish of Cherubim and Seraphim–
a few months ago.
The church members declined to comment on the incident when PUNCH Metro visited the community on Tuesday.
The members prevented their correspondent from entering the church’s premises when he demanded to speak with their pastor.
One of them, a woman, who felt enraged by the request, said:
“We cannot say anything about what
happened. We are not his family
members and he (the deceased) was
not a church member. Go and meet
his people. I don’t want to hear
anything; leave our church now!”
Most residents approached by this
correspondent also declined comments on the incident.
However, an elderly man, who did not to give his name, said the deceased was a member of
the church, adding that he was awoken on the day by the commotion caused by the
incident.
He said:
“He (Taofiq) had attended a vigil with
members of the church on Friday to
Saturday. It was around 5am that he
was found dangling on a tree at the
back of the church. I don’t know why
he killed himself. But he must have
been psychologically disturbed. I saw
the garment he wore to the church at
the place he committed suicide.”
As the man narrated what he witnessed to Punch, a member of the church stormed his compound and told him to stop.
Another resident, who identified himself as Kareem Ibrahim, said Taofiq’s behaviour became strange about a year ago when he quit his mechanic work.
He said:
“I just opened shop that day when a
friend came to tell me that someone
had died at the back of the church. On
getting there, it turned out to be
Taofik. He was living around here
before, but I don’t know where he
relocated to. When he converted to
Christianity last year, he changed his
name to Segun.
“He was a mechanic and was living a
normal life until last year when we
observed that his behaviour was
changed. I learnt he was defrauded of
money, but I don’t know the amount.
He was a bachelor.”
The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Dolapo Badmos, said investigation was ongoing to ascertain the cause of the incident.
She said:
“The Assistant Pastor of the King of
Kings Church, Mr. Odunike Abiodun,
reported to the police that one Taofik
committed suicide near the church,
where he came for a vigil. Detectives
visited the scene of the crime and
investigation is ongoing to unravel the
cause of the death. His corpse has
been deposited in a morgue for
autopsy.”

Members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly have exposed ‘a plot to bribe legislators with as much as $1 million each’ to be part of the efforts to impeach state governor, Ayodele Fayose.
The lawmakers stated that they were ready to spend the rest of their tenure in the Department of State Services cell instead of collaborating with people who have been defeated in 5 consecutive elections to cause political instability in the state.
Furthermore, while addressing the press on Tuesday, March 8, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Gboyega Aribisogan, in the company of 12 other lawmakers, revealed that the lawmakers would not allow a repeat of the 2006 experience in this dispensation.
He noted that then, members of the Ekiti state Assembly were kept in Economic and Financial Crimes Commission detention and forced to append their signature to the impeachment of Governor Fayose right on the table of the commission’s chairman.
“We are here to inform the public through
your various medium the open involvement of men of the Department of State Service (DSS) from Abuja in the plot to unseat our State Governor, Mr Peter Ayodele Fayose.”
“The last Friday invasion of the State House of Assembly by armed men of the DSS in which four of our members were abducted, has been established to be a prelude to the clandestine plot to coerce members of the House of Assembly to impeach Governor Fayose.”
“As at today, even Hon Afolabi Akanni that we were able to confirm was with the DSS in Abuja is being held incommunicado. No one has been given access to him, not even his lawyers and doctors. We do not have any information as to the whereabouts of the other three.”
“We are aware of the plot to arrest no fewer than 18 of our members with a view to forcing them to sign impeachment notice against Governor Fayose. had been visited by some men, who claimed to be officials of the DSS. Our members were told that their names were among those to be arrested and they must “cooperate” if they do not want their bank accounts frozen and be kept in DSS detention indefinitely.”

arrangement had been made for the
impeachment of the governor, with a sum of $1 million already earmarked for sharing among “cooperating” assembly members. Also, our members were told that they will be provided with soft-landing in the APC if they cooperate. One of them revealed that they promised to make him the Speaker, and eventually the Acting Governor.”
“We however wish to tell the plotters of evil against the government of Ayodele Fayose and by extension the people of Ekiti State that we, members of the State House of Assembly are not interested in their evil plot.
We are prepared to spend the rest of our tenure in DSS cell, instead of joining people that we roundly defeated in five straight elections to cause another political instability in Ekiti State.”

FG Employs James Ocholi’s Son, Gives Others Scholarship
Labour, Mr James Ocholi (SAN), the Federal Government has announced automatic employment at the Federal Ministry of Justice for Aaron, his eldest son.
The Attorney-General of the Federation,
Abubakar Malami, revealed this to the Ocholi family when he paid a visit to his Kado Estate residence at about 3:00pm on Tuesday, to convey his and President Muhammadu Buhari’s condolence message.
He also disclosed that Aaron’s other siblings would enjoy scholarships for their educational pursuits, courtesy of the Federal Government who has pledged to cushion the effect of the loss of their parents.
The Minister added that the Senior Advocate was a very critical part of the change effort of the Federal Government.
He said that President Buhari personally
mandated him to inform the family of the
late Minister that his administration would do
all within its power to ensure he is not
missed.
Mr Malami consoled them that death was a necessary end that was bound to happen, adding that God in his infinite mercy had a reason for allowing them to depart the way they did.
“I am here to convey Mr President’s
condolence message and he has asked
me to personally inform you that you
have been given automatic
employment in the Federal Ministry of
Justice. The employment letter is in
process and you can resume work after
now”, he told Ocholi’s eldest son.
“Your father was a very hardworking
and conscientious member of the
Federal Executive Council who was very
passionate and worked hard for the
realisation of the change agenda of this
government.
“Indeed, it is a sad moment for all of
us and the vacuum which his death has

Premium Times, an official of the Swiss
Embassy in Nigeria, Pascal Holliger, said
“Yes, our foreign Minister is on his way
to Nigeria on Tuesday. He is coming on
a working visit to Nigeria. During the
visit, he would open the Consular
General’s office in Lagos and meet with
the Vice President of Nigeria and the
Minister of Foreign Affairs to discuss
the issue of the repatriation of the
second tranche of the Abacha loot”.

Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote, says
Nigeria's economic reality is being
exaggerated and is not as bad as it is being
portrayed. Dangote said this while speaking at
the Economist Forum in Lagos, yesterday
March 7th. Dangote said while some
businesses faced serious challenges, others
did not.
“It all depends on the business. I think
people are underrating the economy of
Nigeria. They just go and look at
foreign exchange because oil has gone
down and believe that everything has
gone out of the window. That is not
correct”.
He said despite what is being described as an
economic crisis in Nigeria, his company,
Dangote Cement, recorded 47 per cent growth
in January and February.
"We have seen growth in our sugar
business of about 20 per cent. If your
business model is to import 100 per
cent of your component and just be an
assembly plant, then definitely you will
face challenges because the influx of
foreign exchange is not like what it
used to be a year and half ago when we
used to receive about 3.2 billion
dollars on monthly basis and our
outflow was around two billion dollars.
Today, we are receiving just about a
billion dollars. In our cement sector,
we had that vision and we said let us
properly industrialise. By this, we mean
that our raw materials are almost 90
percent locally sourced. So we only
need foreign exchange to buy spare
parts, pay some of our expatriate staff
salaries in dollars and a get a little bit
of gipson which is not readily available
here.”he said
Dangote added that the only option left for
businesses in Nigeria was to export.
“We now have capacity to export
cement worth about 500 million dollars
on an annual basis. With that, it means
that we are self-sufficient. If you look
at most of our projects, they are all
very transformational projects because
we saw this coming. In the last ten
years, we said we want to do things in
a manner that by 2018, we don’t have
to go to the Central Bank of Nigeria to
ask for foreign exchange. We want to
be people who will sale forex to the
market.”he said

OMG!! 4 dead as 5 -story building collapse in Lekki
Another tragedy has occurred in the
highbrow Lekki area of Lagos State as a
five-storey building under construction
has collapsed, leaving four people dead
and many still trapped inside.
Eyewitnesses say the building which was
nearing completion, collapsed after the
heavy downpour in the city this morning
at about 8am. The dead and the trapped
are said to be construction workers who
had resumed early for the day’s job.
The collapsed building is said to be at the
Chisco bus stop opposite Oando Gas
station along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
At the time of this report, officials of the
National Emergency Management Agency
(NEMA), and the Lagos State Fire Service
are on ground helping in the rescue
operation. The Director of the State Fire
Service, Rasaq Fadipe, has confirmed the
incident though he is silent on the figure
of the death, just as a number of injured
people have been rescued so far.
APC Man Burnt Alive As Thugs Claim Five Lives In Rivers .
A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ofinijite Amachree, was reportedly
burnt alive in Buguma, Asari-Toru Local
Government of Rivers State yesterday.
Amachree was beaten up and burnt. Five
were clubbed to death between Saturday
and Sunday.
The murder of Amachree took place barely 48 hours after APC’s Ward 4 chairman in Omoku, headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/ Ndoni, Franklin Obi, was beheaded at his home by masked gunmen at 9 pm. His wife and 18-year-old son, Bestman, were also killed, The Nation reports..

My fiance and I are based in the UK and
have been dating for 2 years. We are
getting married in June this year and all
plans are set. I however got the greatest
shock of my life on Feb 14th.
He had came to my flat a day before and a
male friend of mine called me at night
while I was sleeping and he saw the call. I
woke up in morning only to be met with
accusations and name-calling. He even
threatened to call my people to cancel the
wedding and left my flat in anger.
I called my mum to report his behaviour.
My parents subsequently advised me to go
and apologize to him in order to bring
peace. I found out when I got to his place
that my mum had even called him to
apologize on my behalf.
As soon as I got there, he started the
name-calling again, calling me names like
ashawo, cheap, whore and the likes, and
before I knew it, this very calm man I
have known for the past two years turned
into a different person. He was behaving
like a completely mad person.
He locked the door and started beating me
and pulling my hair. He took out a knife
and threatened to kill me if I didn’t
confess that I’m sleeping with the guy who
called me on Saturday night. Some of my
braids came off, my dress was completely
torn and I had bruises all over. He ceased
my phone so I couldn’t call in the police
and held me hostage for close to an hour.
I cried the whole time, pleading with him
to free me. Just around that time, my
mum started calling me and he picked the
call and told her we just had a small fight
and I was crying. My mum asked to speak
to me and I told her everything that
happened.
Surprisingly, my mum told me these things
happen in marriages and I shouldn’t let
other people know our problems. My mum
said lots of women go through this once in
a while and I should stop crying and not
do anything that will bring about the
cancellation of our wedding.
He also started crying too, pleading that
he was very sorry and didn’t know what
came over him. I then left and came to my
place. He’s been calling and texting me
since then but I’ve refused to respond. I
am in total shock! I am also disappointed
at my mum’s reaction to all of this.
Honestly, I’m scared for my life because if
I go ahead to marry him, it might continue
and I have read about men killing their
spouses in marriages.
He is not a violet person usually though
and very remorseful about how he treated
me. What should I do? Should I cancel the
wedding or give him another chance. I
need your advice.
Deputy Governor Of Yobe State Involved In Motor Accident In Kano. ( Photos ) Michael B .
The Deputy governor of Yobe state,
Abubakar Ali, was involved in a car
accident in Daka-Tsalle town along the
Kaduna- Kano expressway on Monday,
March 7th.
Eyewitnesses report that the SUV of the
deputy governor had a head-on collision
with a Toyota Avensis. Although the deputy
governor was unharmed, the Toyota
Avensis somersaulted and was badly
damaged.
The deputy governor’s convoy later
continued its trip to Kano.
