Dr Goodluck Jonathan, Nigeria’s immediate past president, may be probed The Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission (EFCC) has fixed a date to arrest former president Goodluck
Jonathan.
A source within the agency told Reportsafrique.com on April 4 that the ex-president may be arrested before May
29. The source hinged the revelation on the level of investigations carried out on
Jonathan-led administration by officials of the commission, noting that he may be arrested before President
Muhammadu Buhari-led administration clocks its first year in office.
According to the source, the arrest of Azibaola Robert, the managing director
of Kakatar engineering and construction company two weeks ago was a clear
indication that “we are inching close to making former president Jonathan our
guest,” describing Robert as the closest kinsman of the former president.
The official described as careless, the recent remarks made by former president Olusegun Obasanjo, who
berated the commission and described it as a “toothless bulldog”. The EFCC chief
predicted: “Unfolding events in the next few weeks will actually confirm whether
the EFCC has indeed become a toothless bulldog,” adding that: “We arrested Mr.
Azibaola Robert on March 23, 2016 when he came to honour our invitation.
We also arrested his wife, but she has since been granted bail.
The following day, we arrested Dakoru
Atukpa, Executive Director of his company. As we speak, both men are in our custody and are helping with vital
information needed to nail the former president.”
The official also disclosed that Robert and Atukpa were arrested in connection
to the ongoing investigations into $40million oil pipeline security contract, which stemmed from the ministry of
petroleum, but was paid for by the office of the detained former national
security adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (Rtd).
The source said the anti-graft agency is currently following a lead that indicates
that One-Plus Nigeria limited, a sister company to Kakatar, which secured the oil pipeline security contract, may have
acted as a front for Jonathan. “Even though One-Plus appeared to have
successfully executed the contract, we are interested in details of how the company executed the job, including
those who got paid from the $40 million sum.
Even though we are still investigating, there is sufficient suspicion that both
men used One-Plus as front of the former President. The Managing Director of One-Plus has constantly maintained that the company was incorporated well before Jonathan became Vice President, and that it wasn’t a crime to come from
Otuoke,” the official said.

Former Lagos State Governor and a leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, has narrated how a working trip he made
while serving as an auditor for auditing giant, Deloitte and Touche, made him an “instant millionaire”.
Mr. Tinubu first served as a senator in the short-lived third republic and later
as governor of Lagos State between 1999 and 2007. He has been accused of making a fortune from politics.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday in
Washington DC assured Nigerians in the Diaspora of his administration’s determination to move the country forward as rapidly as
possible.
The president gave the assurance at an audience with a group of Nigerians, who had
distinguished themselves in various professions in the United States.
A statement issued in Abuja by the president’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, President Buhari said that his
administration was fully committed to correcting the errors that had hindered
Nigeria’s progress as a nation.
“We are determined to get things done properly this time and God willing, we shall
succeed.
“We are working diligently to correct our mistakes as a nation. We will rehabilitate and expand national infrastructure, and move
forward as quickly as possible,’’ he added. Buhari also said that his administration would
maintain contacts with Nigerian professionals
in the Diaspora and see how they could be best placed to contribute effectively to national development if they choose to come back home.
The President congratulated the five Nigerians he met with for their exceptional
accomplishments, saying that he was very proud of them all.
According to the statement, the Nigerians received by President Buhari included Prof. Austin Esogbue, the only African to have served on the board of the United States’
National Aeronautical Space Agency and Jelani Aliyu, a leading car designer with General Motors.

The state executive of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Bayelsa has announced the
suspension of a former governor of the state, Chief Timipre Sylva, who was the party’s candidate in last year’s governorship election.

Two persons have been killed and 40
houses set ablaze as two communities in
Akoko-Edo local government clashed over
a mango tree.
The clash that occurred on Wednesday
between the Uneme-Ekpedo and Bekuma-
Okpameri communities started after four
persons from Uneme-Ekpedo community
went to a bush to pluck mangoes, but one
of them was killed by youths from
Bekuma-Okpameri community, who

The video of the single Surulere, was quite
unique. What were you trying to achieve
with the concept?
I was simply trying my hand at acting. I had
already shot a film with Moses Inwang, titled
The Last Six Digits. So, with Surulere , I
wanted a fun video. Frank Donga and I were
the lead actors and Donga’s facial expressions
were spot on and hilarious. I call him the
Nigerian Frank Spencer. We both came up
with the concept and I planned for Oba
Saheed Elegushi to play a cameo role in the
video but it wasn’t possible.
You seem to have an inclination for dance
songs…
My last album had a variety of songs like
Chop Ogbonna and Surulere. I like to get my
audience involved in my stage performances.
I intend to direct more videos and that was
why I attended a film school in order to
pursue my passion in filmmaking. I also have
a short film, which I released on YouTube. My
goal is to make movies that will keep you on
the edge of your seat.
Do you think you have gotten to the stage
where you can leave music for video
directing?
Both industries are intertwined which means
that I can make music and also come up with
a creative concept for the video during my
spare time.
Some say your songs sound alike. Do you
agree?
I don’t think my songs sound alike. Baby
Tornado sounds completely different from
Surulere . I think people need to change the
way they listen to my songs. The only thing I
think is peculiar to my songs is that I like
songs people can sing along to. I have been in
this industry for 13 years and I have studied
the market to an extent. A friend recently
drew my attention to the fact that the only
musicians who started out at about the same
time I launched my music career are Sound
Sultan and 2face. I was stunned and it means
that I must be doing something right to still
be around till date. I must thank the fans who
have taken out time to listen to and
understand my sound. I constantly try to
improve on my sound and craft. My happiest
moments are when I am performing on stage.
You’ve been around for over a decade. Are
you happy with where you are now?
I don’t regret any stage I find myself in life.
Some people might say I am not as big as I
am supposed to be but that’s their opinion.
God has his plans for me and every step I
take brings me closer to fulfilling my destiny.
I could have been more aggressive with my
career and fade off like a lot of artistes but
I’m still here 13 years on. I can’t really
complain about that because I make enough
money to feed my family and invest in other
businesses. I am not greedy but content with
life.
Your industry is quite competitive, how do
you handle that aspect?
I will give my late dad and my mum the
credit because they raised me well. There is a
popular saying that “you don’t have look at
someone else’s watch to look at your time.”
I’m not envious of anyone. As a matter of
fact, what makes you a success is what you
do with your achievements. Not many are
aware of the fact that how you comport
yourself helps to determine your personality
and shapes your future. My dad thought me
to strive for perfection but he also told me
that consistency is what keeps you relevant.
That is one of the reasons why I keep putting
out good music.
In what ways does your family plan to
immortalise him?
To be honest, my father is already
immortalised through the way we live our
lives. I have a family name to protect and I
also want to be known as Justus Esiri’s son.
He is being remembered and celebrated
through my actions. I am a representation of
his legacy and I can’t reveal what my family’s
plans are in this area. Irrespective of what
comes my way, I always remember that I
have a name and pedigree to protect.
Has being his son put you under so much
pressure especially from his fans?
Yes, it has and right from the outset of my
music career, I was committed to building my
own name and brand. I didn’t want to ride on
the fact that I am Justus Esiri’s son. Till date,
some people still don’t know that I am his
son. This is good for me because it made me
realise that all I have achieved in my career is
by merit and not because of my father’s
name. I would also be lying if I say that my
father’s name didn’t open certain doors and
make certain things easier for me. I have
attained a certain level of contentment, so I
don’t need to prove myself to any one.
Do you have an album in the works?
Unfortunately, the cycle of music release has
changed worldwide. People aren’t really
buying into albums that much because the
moment you drop an album this week, people
will begin to ask you when the next one will
follow. People have started consuming music
a lot and you need to give them constant
quality content. I released so any songs on
my last album, Siduction, so all I have to do
is promote the album throughout the year.
Right now, I am thinking of releasing a few
singles and when the time is right I just might
drop an album.
What are your thoughts on international
music collaborations?
I don’t think international collaborations are
a necessity. How much international
collaborations has made an album a hit?
None readily comes to mind but I respect it
because it serves as a good platform to
export the artiste’s music and I am not going
to knock it down. I had a collaboration with
Alexander Burke who won the X Factor
United Kingdom on my last album and it has
opened a lot of doors for me in the UK.
How would you describe your marriage so
far?
Marriage is the hardest and best thing I have
ever done. I have learnt how to adapt and
connect more with my wife. I thank God that
I have such a beautiful wife who is
understanding, loving and caring. She loves
me more than I love myself and constantly
encourages me to be better.
How involved are you in the nurturing of
your daughter?
My wife took some time away from work to
raise our daughter. After our wedding, she
was supposed to start her business but she
became pregnant and had to adjust to her
new role as a wife and mother. Now that she
is back to work, I have taken up the daddy
role, which includes changing diapers and
caring for our daughter at odd hours. I am
extremely happy and I have never felt this
way before. A lot of people hear about
marriage and think it is hard. It can be
beautiful if you work towards it. I remember
us quarrelling two days before our wedding
and even threatening to pull out. But, our
love for each other has kept us going. Right
now, our marriage is on autopilot and we are
just cruising because we understand each
other absolutely.
At least five African migrants have died and 15 injured, some of them seriously after
guards at a detention in the coastal town of Zawiya opened fire during a mass escape early on Saturday morning, April 2.
According to sources, a large group of African migrants attempted to escape from the centre around 1am on Saturday morning. The details
are still sketchy but at one point there seems to have been a confrontation between some of the escaping migrants and guards who
form part of the Al Nasser Militia, also responsible for guarding the nearby refinery.
"We don’t know how it happened yet but at one point there was an exchange of fire. It didn’t last long but at least five migrants are dead and 15 are injured," a source from
Zawiya told Migrant Report
The injured were taken to the nearby hospital in Zawiya, which is about 45kms from the
capital Tripoli. The detention centre in Zawiya is severely overcrowded with more thousands of migrants.
"We are informed there may be as many as 15,000 migrants," the same source told Migrant Report. "The conditions are terrible,
severe overcrowding, no proper sanitation or proper medical facilities. It’s disastrous," he said.
Most of the migrants staying there were arrested or intercepted at sea this year,
according to the source.

A 12-year-old girl, Queen, who was allegedly
raped serially by her father, Bamekpa, with
her four-month-old pregnancy crudely
aborted, has said she could not count the
number of times Bamekpa allegedly forcibly
had canal knowledge of her (HERE) .
There has been public outrage against the
incident, which occurred at Imiringi, Ogbia
Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, since it
was reported by The Nation , with many
people calling for Bamekpa’s arrest and
prosecution.
But Queen relived her ordeal in the hands of
her father and called on the Inspector-
General of Police, Solomon Arase, to step in
and facilitate the process of bringing the man
to justice.The traumatised SS1 student said
“I want my father to be thrown into
prison”, “I feel pained that a man I
called my father used me many times
to satisfy his sexual urge.”
Narrating how it all started in 2015, she said:
“He started sleeping with me in 2015.
The first time he did it, I was in my
room reading when he came in. He
asked me the kind of school I would
like to go. Then he came close to me.
“When I stood up to go, he asked me
to wait and started touching me all
over my body. I asked him what he
was doing but he told me to keep quiet
and immediately pushed me into the
bed. “He tied my hands backwards.
When he saw that I was shouting, he
covered my mouth with his hand, He
started doing it increasingly from that
time. I always cried and begged him to
leave me but he would not listen.” She
said she was afraid to discuss her
ordeal with anybody because her
father threatened to kill her if she did.
She, however, said the bubble burst
when she began to show signs of
pregnancy.
She said:
“When I became pregnant, I didn’t
know. My stepmother saw the signs
and suspected that I was pregnant. It
was when she began to ask me who
impregnated me that I told her. I
learnt she has moved out of the
house.”
The teenager said her life became more
traumatic when her father allegedly
commenced the process of aborting the
pregnancy. She said the method was crude
and opened a chapter of health problems in
her life.
She said: “My father, seeing that I was
pregnant, took me to do an abortion.
He took me to Elebele and handed me
over to his female friend named Peace,
who took me to a house in Otu-Aba.
“They did not allow me to see the
process, but I saw the instruments. It
was very painful. After that day, I
started bleeding because he didn’t
abort the pregnancy completely. I was
taken back to Otu-Aba on December 5
and from there, we went to Otu-Asiga
to flush the remaining one. “I
discovered later that my body system
had been messed up. I noticed I was
no longer menstruating. It was just
recently that I was taken to the Federal
Medical Centre (FMC) where an
operation was done on me with
something like a container inserted
into me. They called it a minor
operation. I went back to FMC on
Thursday to remove the container.”
Queen said she could no longer go to school
because of the problems created by her
father.
“I feel very bad. I want the police oga
(police boss) to put him in prison. He
has been doing similar things to many
people,” she said.
Queen’s nephew, David Apigi, who reported
the matter to Operation Rescue, asked the
police to speedily and diligently prosecute the
matter. He confirmed that her niece went
through an operation at FMC.
He said: “The operation was done on
her private part and a container was
inserted into her. She went back on
Thursday to have the container
removed,” he said.
The Coordinator, Operation Rescue, Princess
Elizabeth Egbe, said the police had promised
to effect the arrest of other suspects after
taking Queen’s statement. She said the Officer
in Charge, Family Unity, Edith Washington,
said the statement of the violated girl would
be taken after her medical check.
She, however, said the NGO had no suspicion
that the police were trying to sweep the
matter under the carpet until they failed to
effect arrest and commence prosecution
within a reasonable time frame.
She said initially, the policemen in charge of
the case said they had no money to go to the
crime scene. She, however, said the police
commissioner later made a financial provision

She said: “The police said they would
commence the arrest of suspects after
they get the girl’s statement today
after her medical checks. They have
not got the statement of the girl. “I
don’t have any suspicion that the
police are trying to hide the matter.
The police said the suspect is in the
state CID but we have not sighted him.
The police have not been able to invite
us officially for a meeting. “For now, I
cannot hold them till after she has
given her statement. The police said
they didn’t have money to go to the
crime scene but the commissioner
made a provision for them to go there.
If they failed to arrest the doctor and
the lady, we will commence our

Further lamenting her condition, 27-year-old
Joy, who said she was raped serially by
Bamekpa when she was between six and seven
years old, appealed to the police to diligently
handle the matter and ensure that justice is
served.
Recalling the second time the suspect raped
her, she said:
“While I was playing with other
children, he called me and asked me to
go to his room and get pineapple.
When I went to his room, he came in
and shut the door. He held me and
pushed me into his bed.
“While I was shouting, he was laughing
at me, boasting that even if I shouted
with all my energy, nobody would
come and rescue me. I shouted but
nobody came.”
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer
(PRO) of the Bayelsa State Command of the
Nigeria Police Force, Butswat Asinim, a
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said
the matter was being handled by the police.
He assured that the matter would not be
swept under the carpet, particularly because
it involves sexual abuse of a minor.

An elusive leader of a notorious gang allegedly
responsible for a wave of violence in the last
few years in Mushin area of Lagos, Wasiu
Akinwande, AKA Olori Eso, has been
apprehended by the police in a raid that has
been praised by residents of the area.
Akinwande was arrested on Tuesday, after
months on the run Saturday PUNCH learnt.
But some residents have expressed fear that he
might be released without prosecution by the
police like they did in the past.
He was said to have been arrested in January
after a renewed gang war in the area.
Akinwande was arrested by policemen from the
Area D Police Command, along with two other
members of the gang identified as Afeez
Kehinde and Mubo Jones at Daleko, Isolo and
Olosha areas of Mushin.
He was said to have been released the same
day even though residents of the area believe
there are overwhelming evidence against him.
Saturday PUNCH learnt that the suspect had
once gone underground after a fake burial
ceremony was held in his honour by members
of his gang.
Saturday PUNCH learnt that earlier in 2011,
during a violent clash between Akinwande’s
gang and residents of the community, he was
also arrested but released soon after.
It was learnt that in order to allow him to go
underground, members of his gang printed his
obituary and even held a ceremony in his
honour to ‘announce’ to the Mushin
community that he was dead.
Few years later, residents said he suddenly
resurfaced to continue his alleged attacks in
the area.
In October 2015, Akinwande allegedly led a
group of his gang members on a show of force
to Ikeolu Street, Mushin. But by the time their
incursion into the area was over, a pregnant
woman named Ruka, who was selling noodles
in front of her house, had been gunned down.
Ruka’s husband, Waheed was one of the
individuals, who reacted to the arrest of
Akinwande with jubilation.
Waheed told our correspondent, “I still
remember that day like a dream. While
everybody fled, my wife had no time to flee
when Olori Eso and his gang came and started
shooting in the area that day.
“But I am happy that the principal suspect in
the murder of my wife is now in custody. I am
glad. Many residents of Mushin are also happy.
But should we continue to celebrate without
the fear that he might be released? No.
“We are celebrating but at the same time
afraid that he might be released the way he
was arrested in January and released barely
five hours after.
“You will realise that despite all the evidence
against him, despite what people here know
that he did, people around here would still be
afraid of voicing out because they know there
is the possibility of him being released to
continue unleashing mayhem in area. This is
why people are afraid to be happy that he has
been arrested.”
Saturday PUNCH learnt that an earlier murder
case against members of his gang, had
culminated in the arrest and arraignment of a
colleague of his, Alayode Abiola, AKA Aloma.
The case involved the murder of a nine-year-
old girl, Aminat Lateef, who was killed by the
gang’s stray bullet in Fadeyi, Lagos, while
returning from an errand on December 9,
2010.
At Ikeolu Street, residents reeled out
allegations against Akinwande and his gang as
they lauded his arrest.
A resident, who pleaded anonymity for fear of
reprisals, alleged, “A member of their gang,
who had just come back from prison in January
2014, decided to renounce his membership
but Olori Eso’s boys decided to kill him. The
young man escaped with a gunshot injury to
the hand.
“He was later hunted down and killed not long
after that. Few years before that, a popular
young footballer here called Isiaka, was also
killed by the members of the gang the same
day they held a peace talk with government
officials. That is how ruthless the Olori Eso’s
gang members are.”
The police have said they are hunting for other
members of Akinwande’s group.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state,
Dolapo Badmus, told Saturday PUNCH that the
police had been on his trail for a while before
he was finally nabbed on Tuesday.
“There is no iota of truth in the allegation that
he was always released after arrest. Effort is
ongoing to arrest other members of his gang
who are now on the run,” she said.

Nigerians to prevail on President
Mohammadu Buhari to stop his
needless foreign trips, describing the

The governor said “it remains a mystery what
President Buhari that met power generation
at 6,000MW and could not manage it such

Public Communications and New Media, Lere
Olayinka, Governor Fayose said “it is
shameful that while President Buhari was far
away in the United States of America,
attending a summit that does not have any
bearing on Nigeria and its people, an
unprecedented happened - power generation
stopped completely for over three hours!”
He said the sufferings of Nigerians deserved
the attention of the president instead of
junketing around the world, wasting the
country’s scarce foreign exchange. The
governor alleged that over $50 million must
have been spent on the president’s frequent
foreign trips, adding that Nigerians should
ask President Buhari whether his trip to the

Energy Summit will bring the lingering fuel

Kunle Poly, an alleged cultist has been
confirmed dead by doctors at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital after he was beaten to a pulp by a mob in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital after going to Osin town to steal 8 goats.
He was about to be lynched when security official came to his rescue and rushed him to the Civil Service Clinic but was rejected. He was later taken to the UITH, where he was
confirmed dead.
The state Commissioner of Police, Samuel Okaula, who spoke through the command’s PRO, Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed that Kunle Poly was beaten to a pulp by the mob, adding that he was later confirmed dead by doctors at the UITH.
